With its strategic position near the geographical center of the country, a number of main transport routes pass through the city, and Bloemfontein Airport plays an important role in business travel, cargo shipping and tourism. The airport's runways and state-of-the-art communication equipment are shared by the Bloemspruit Air Force Base located south-east of the runways.
