Durban Art Galleries - Cross-pollination of Cultures

The beautiful landscapes of the Zulu Kingdom are an inspiration to a number of artists. As these creative geniuses soak up the bohemian lifestyle, the cross-pollination of cultures and the warm, salty air, their imaginations are sparked and their creative talents simply pour out. No wonder there are so many great art galleries in Durban.

The Durban Art Gallery is KwaZulu Natal’s regional gallery and it houses an impressive collection of both old and new artworks by national and international artists. It features various aspects of art, including more unusual forms such as beadwork, and is simply a delight to visit. The BAT Center will take you closer to the people and their various art forms, while a trip to the African Art Center can certainly help to support a family in need, whilst at the same time providing you with a window on the wealth of talent that exists among South Africa’s poorer communities. Several other excellent art galleries in Durban are listed below. You may want to take some time deciding which ones you want to visit most before setting off for this beautiful city.

as an old man of 75 years age living in cape town and a born and bred durbanite i would like to tell you that i spent many happy hours at the durban art gallery. if i could afford it i would like to make a trip back to durban mainly to the gallery and see the old town hall which i loved, there was a beautiful old painting which i admired of a klerk standing in front of his bosses desk which was piled high with paperwork, the man looked decidedly uncomfortable but beautifully portraid. well i paint and was a friend of john ferguson, who`s simple but effective work i admired and whos philosophy was that he could only where one set of clothing at a time, so money was no object he used to sell his work for 10 pounds whilst other artists of his caliber were asking hundres of pounds for their work. (memory lane.) lol peach
