Beaches in Kwazulu Natal
KwaZulu Natal is well noted for its endless, white sandy beaches and warm weather. Durban Beaches
Because Durban municipality is very security alert and has a zero tolerance approach to crime there is
an outpost police station on the beachfront. Police on foot, bike and on horseback will preserve a
visible presence to guarantee safety and security. Almost all the beaches have qualified lifeguards
on duty every day. Most of the beaches are protected against sharks by means of shark nets and almost
all the beaches have got showers and change rooms. Durban is all about surfing, sunbathing and fun in
the sun.
Durban / Addington Beach
Addington Beach is the perfect place for swimming, suntanning and mastering the surf. The waves are not
as harsh like the one's of Wedge Beach, Dairy Beach and North Beach.
Durban / South Beach
This beach is not so glamorous and entertaining, like the rest of the Golden Mile beaches, although there
are trampolines, bike hires and playgrounds.There is a walkway along the golden beach, which runs all the
way down to the Point
Durban / Sea World
Boasts and outstanding dolphinarium on the Durban Beachfront with shows on a daily basis featuring dolphins,
penguins and seals. Other marine life including Sharks, stingrays and turtles can be seen in the adjoining
aquarium.
Durban / Wedge Beach
Wedge beach has a history for being popular with expert and rookie (grommets) surfers and is also popular
with kiteflyers, jetskiers and sunbathers
Durban / Dairy Beach
Dairy Beach is a popular surf spot for locals and tourist and this is the place where people enjoy the sun,
sand and water for bathing, tanning, jogging and a number of watersports including kite surfing and jetskying.
Durban / North Beach
North beach, the busiest beach on the Golden Mile, has beautiful white sand stretches and breakwaters,
and is the centre of most of the holiday action. One of the annual highlights is the Vodacom Beach
Africa Festival and the Gunston 500. North Beachhosts Minitown, that comprises a collection of scale
model duplications of Durban. North Beach has qualified lifeguards on watch every day. The broad walkway
runs all along the beach and between the promenade and the Marine Parade and Snell beachfront roads, are
a plethora of family entertainments - pools, fun-fair type attractions, restaurants, and craft people who
sell jumble, crafts and beautiful woodcarvings and beadwork. You can even watch the women do the beadwork
while they sit in groups on the pavements.
Durban / Bay of Plenty
The Bay of Plenty Beach offers great surf and sunbathing. It has shower and dressing facilities and
qualified lifeguards on duty every day.
Durban / Snake Park Beach
Snake Park is very popular with surfers and hosts popular surfing events.
Durban / Battery Beach
Battery Beach is a sunbathers paradise and is very popular with surfers too.
Durban / Oasis Beach
Oasis Beach is a remote beach with miles of deserted stretches and rolling sand dunes
and is a little less crowded than the central beaches.
