Addington Beach - Gem on the Golden Mile

Addington Beach along Durban's well-known Golden Mile, boasts beautiful golden sands and clear warm Indian Ocean waters. Located right beside the new impressive uShaka Marine World and tourist development site, Addington Beach is the ideal tourist destination.

Addington Beach is a broad, sandy shore line extending way beyond the bathing zone. The waters are protected by the entrance of the harbor making it an ideal swimming spot for those who prefer calm waters and for young ones. A sheltered beach, Addington has small waves, which are ideal for those who are learning to surf or are trying out board-sailing for the first time. A number of companies offer surfing lessons at Addington Beach so if you have always wanted to give surfing a go, this is the perfect destination to do so. Professional, trained lifeguards ensure that all visitors to the beach are kept safe all through the year. You can also spend hours in the waters confident in the protection afforded by the shark nets. Spend the day catching a tan, body boarding in the waters, throwing a frisbee or enjoying a picnic at Addington beach. Alternatively you can pop into uShaka and snorkel in the lovely pools. Addington in eThekweni is also known for is environmental education programs held frequently.

Off the shores of Addington Beach is a popular scuba diving site, the wreck of the Ovington Court. Back in 1940 the Ovington Court ship was beached upon Addington Beach and its remains still lie just 200 meters from where the waters lap the shore. Enjoy a fascinating wreck dive whilst your family enjoys the sun on Durban's Addington Beach.

Just up from Addington Beach there are several restaurants and bars where you can enjoy a meal or grab something cool to drink. The beach also has shower and changing room facilities for the convenience of visitors. Addington Beach is not as busy as its fellow Golden Milers of North Beach and South Beach. So, if you are looking to escape the crowds, enjoy the soft sand underfoot, take a dip in warm Indian Ocean waters or practice your newly acquired surfing skills, Addington Beach is the spot to go.
