Unique Sea Point Beach

Cape Town's suburb of Sea Point is densely populated with people and high-rise buildings along the seafront. Tall apartment blocks and hotels line the main road and promenade, looking out over the glistening sea and the tempting beach. Sea Point has just a few small coves along the chiefly rocky coastline. Add to this the deep kelp beds and you will understand why it is more of a tanning or picnicking beach. However, Sea Point beach is still a lovely spot for relaxing in the sun.

Sea Point's beaches are situated just below the bustling promenade. Relatively small, they can only accommodate a few beach-goers, so its best to get there early. During low tide large rocks and masses of seaweed stick out of the blue waters. Though not suitable for swimming, there are a few rock pools to splash around in. Children are particularly found of discovering the little creatures hidden in the beautifully formed rock pools. One of the isolated tidal pools is used only by men. During hot weather the locals along with visitors stroll down for a few hours in the bright sunlight. Sea Point is ideal for picnicking so be sure to bring your basket of goodies along as well as plenty of sun lotion and maybe a beach game or two. Not far away is the impressive lighthouse. This square red and white tower stretching up into the sky is amongst the oldest lighthouses in South Africa.

The Sea Point promenade is a popular roadway for joggers, dog owners taking their pooches for a walk and in-line skaters. During high tide, the walkway has been known to become drenched by waves washing high up the shore line. Stroll one block back from the promenade and you will get to the Sea Point hot spot – Main Road. Here you will discover a great selection of shops, restaurants and fast food outlets. Prior to the constructed of Cape Town's V&A Waterfront, Main Road Sea Point was the place to go. For a lively bustling beach with a fantastic nightlife and great opportunities for tanning, make your way to the Western Cape's Sea Point beach.
