Athol Fugard, an internationally renowned, award-winning South African Playwright. Tsotsi, written by Athol Fugard in 1989 and filmed in 2005, did much to shoot South African film into the limelight. Best known for his insights into the lives of South African's, Athol Fugard, as a white man went beyond the bounds of color in his writings. In the early days of South Africa’s European history, a man by the name of Percy FitzPatrick returned from England to South Africa to support his recently bereaved mother at the age of 22. In 1884, FitzPatrick left his home in the Cape in search of adventure and perhaps fortune in the Eastern Transvaal. Gold had been discovered in the area and he was one in a million who had made their way to the region to claim a portion of it for themselves. However, Percy’s attempts at gold-digging were somewhat unsuccessful and before long he gave up, bought a wagon and some oxen and began life as a transport rider.
Equine lovers looking for a treat whilst visiting South Africa might well enjoy the performance of the South African Lipizzaners. The only Lipizzaner centre in the world that is recognised by and affiliated with the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, it is one of the few places where you will be privileged to enjoy these delightful white dancers being put through their paces in an educative and enjoyable way.

Many visitors to this stunning and diverse country will overlook the seemingly unimportant Klein (little) Karoo. However, just as with every other corner of the country, you can be sure that there is plenty to do and see in this delightful little spot in South Africa. Ostrich Riding and racing is just one great attraction to be found here. This peculiar bird numbers well into the hundred thousands in a town and farming area known as Oudtshoorn. If you ever wanted to know all about these dynamic, feathered creatures, Oudtshoorn is the place to go. It is also one of the few places where you can find Ostrich Riding in South Africa.
One of the greatest treasures to be found in the Little Karoo along the Garden Route, is the Cango Caves in South Africa. Perhaps the earliest discoverers of this immense 5.3 kilometer long cave system were the San people who graced the entrance of the cave with beautiful rock art some 10 000 years ago while living here. However, there is no evidence that the San penetrated the caves much deeper than the large entrance – a task which would have been difficult at best for them. Since 1891 when the cave was officially opened to tourists, many thousands of visitors have chosen to explore the Cango Caves as part of a guided tour.
