The OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, has recently been flooded with the arrival of a hundred and fifteen of the world’s most beautiful women. Representing countries from all corners of the globe, these beauties, and Miss World hopefuls, gracefully entered the country to attend the various functions and events leading up to the competition. Johannesburg, the tourism industry and its governing bodies, have been pulling out all the stops to ensure that the Miss World finalists enjoy a memorable visit to South Africa.

Three SA Eco-lodges in National Geographic Adventure’s Top 50

Eco-lodges have become a vital part of conservation, tourism and support systems for local communities. To be recognized as an eco-lodge, establishments must fulfill a few requirements. Not only must the lodge be able to provide good service and great comfort, but their initiative must be to look for environmentally friendly ways to operate, such as using recyclable materials and causing the least amount of disruption to the environment. They must use the cultural aspects of their location in the lodge and encourage the local community in using their traditions and the conservation of the natural surroundings to derive an income from the tourism industry.

Virgin Festival Comes to South Africa

In 1996, Virgin UK launched the first Virgin Festival and it has been a growing success ever since. It is hosted in Hylands Park (Chelmsford) and Weston Park (Staffordshire) and this year alone more than a hundred and eighty thousand Virgin Festival enthusiasts attended the music festival, which is held annually in August. The festival later spread to countries such as Canada, the United States of America and Australia, and finally, the Virgin Festival will be launched in South Africa this December.

KwaZulu Natal is a popular province in South Africa amongst both local and international travelers. Its diversity and strong culture can be seen throughout the various cities and towns, and due to its coastal location it also attracts a great number of water sport enthusiasts. The Cape Town International Kite Festival is a popular family event that is organized by Cape Mental Health each year to bring awareness to the people they assist on a daily basis. They are a non-profit organization that offers their services to community members, both children and adults, who suffer from mental disabilities. They reach out to these community members free of charge, teaching them skills and helping them carve a life for themselves. And the Cape Town International Kite Festival is an extension of the services they provide, to bring joy and fun to thousands of festival visitors.

Update: World Cup 2010 in South Africa

Between the 11th of June 2010 and the 11th of July 2010, the 19th FIFA World Cup will be hosted by South Africa. Hosting cities of the FIFA World Cup are Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Polokwane, Rustenburg, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Pretoria and Nelspruit. In all the cities, construction, upgrading and improvements have been underway to ensure that South Africa will be ready to host one of the best international events that Africa and the world has ever seen. Even though rumors and speculation have been circulating in regard to the progress being made, South African organizers have recently confirmed that the country will be ready, by offering an update on the construction and infrastructure progress made so far.
