Though perhaps not many people outside of South African’s realise it, a large number of South African musicians have already been making it big on the music scene in Europe and the United States. We are not referring to musicians who are obviously South African – such as Mango Groove, the Soweto String Quartet and Johnny Clegg who have all created their own small niche in global markets – we are talking about bands who have hit the international music scene in such a big way that they’ve climbed the charts, turned heads and even dominated the music scene for a while.

annual Durban July might be just up your alley. The spectacular even is the country's equivalent
of Britain's Royal Ascot and features superb horse racing, high fashion, good food and great champagne.
The event usually has a large media coverage but you don't necessarily need to be a somebody or even to
know much about horse racing to enjoy the festivities.

Every year hundreds of thousands of people converge on the small university city of Grahamstown for
the countries biggest annual celebrations of the arts. The Grahamstown National Arts Festival runs from
the end of June to the beginning of July for between 8 to 10 days and is the most important event on the
South African cultural calendar. Situated roughly 130 km from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, people
come from all corners of the globe to participate in and to enjoy the festival.

For the last seven years the South African Woodstock festival has been successfully
held on an annual basis. The festival has been held at different venues throughout the
country and 2006 is will see the eight edition of the Woodstock festival take place at
Hartebeespoort Holiday Resort.

Celebrate Freedom Day this year by experiencing true traditional African culture. An African dance
festival is being held in Cape Town on Freedom Day (27 April 2006). The festival will feature a traditional
dance competition to be held between 12 different schools and community groups from around Khayelitsha. All
those competing have been trained in traditional dance as well as instrument making and stage performance. Large
cash prizes will be awarded to the best groups, including a prize for the best costumes.

As if all the other great concerts lined up for 2006 weren't already enough, South African's
will also be able to enjoy The Peoples Celebration Concert. The concert has a strong focus on
Hip Hop and R&B music and will feature both national and international artists at three amazing,
jam-packed venues around the country.

Robbie Williams is coming to South Africa. Robbie fans went absolutely crazy at the announcement
of the concerts to be performed in Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban. His world tour for 2006 to promote
his new album 'Intensive Care' will kick off in sunny South Africa and will then continue across Europe
encompassing 13 countries altogether.
