Located on approximately thirty-five thousand hectares, the Giants Castle Game Reserve was established in 1904 and is one of the oldest of its kind in the Drakensberg Mountains region. The varied escarpment and vegetation in the game reserve has led to the reserve being filled with spectacular wildlife, and in particular a wide and magnificent range of bird species, luring hundreds of avid bird watchers to the reserve each year.
Guests to the Giants Castle Game Reserve can look forward to seeing Cape Vultures, Bearded Vultures, Blesbuck, Jackal, Owls, Reedbuck, Duiker, African Crowned Eagle, Klipspringer and Verreaux’s Eagle. What makes the anticipation of catching a glimpse of the Bearded Vulture so exciting is that the only remaining two hundred breeding pairs of this species call the Drakensberg Mountains home.
