Cape Town Fashion Week 2011

For the fashion industry in South Africa, Cape Town Fashion Week is a very important event, as it is an opportunity for local designers to show off their talent and latest collections. It also is a vital networking platform for members of the industry, and this year the Cape Town Fashion Week will be hosted from 13 to 16 July 2011. Visitors to the Cape Town Fashion Week can look forward to viewing local and international collections, and the event usually attracts numerous celebrities and creative industry leaders.

Hosted for the first time in the year 2003, the event not only become a signature event in the fashion industry but was also the first event to be hosted in the magnificent Cape Town International Convention Centre. The Cape Town Fashion Week will not only be showcasing the work of established fashion designers, but will also feature the collections of young designers, giving them exposure and the chance to learn from the fashion moguls. The popularity of this event has grown so much in last few years that even airlines have been offering reduced rates for flights to Cape Town during this time, enabling large numbers of fashion enthusiasts, buyers and talent scouts to attend the Fashion Week. There will be a great variety of local designers having their collections modeled on the runway, including Leigh Schubert, Thula Sindi, David Tlale, Abigail Betz, Stefania Morland and Gavin Rajah. Collections from other designers gracing the runway include Michelle Ludek, Daniella Margaux, Dax Martin, Tart, Fabiani, Lisp, Habits, Nucleus, House of Monatic, Undacova, Doreen Shouthwood, Lalesso and the Dr Rey Lingerie Show.

This wonderful fashion collection spectacular will also promote awareness for breast cancer through the Design for Life program that is run by African Fashion International. It is expected that, as in previous years, the Cape Town Fashion Week will again draw approximately thirty thousand audience members that include media and fashion buyers. For designers, the event is a wonderful occasion to receive recognition and exposure, and if they are lucky, find buyers interested in obtaining their collections for boutiques and stores. It is an event filled with high fashion, entertainment, creativity and excitement that fashion followers are recommended to attend.
