Cape Town International Jazz Festival

South Africa will once again be presenting the annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival on Friday 31 March and Saturday 1 April 2006. Held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre this prestigious Jazz festival attracts people from around the world. The 7th annual Cape Town International Jazz Festivals will feature a line-up of 40 A-grade jazz and jazz-related artists, both African and International.

To kick start the festival a Free Concert will be held on Thursday 30 March at the Greenmarket Square in Cape Town. The Free Concert will give people a foretaste of what can be expected at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.

The list of artists that have confirmed their performances at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival include: Tina Schouw (RSA), Miriam Makeba (RSA), Freddy Cole Quartet (USA), Nestor Torres (Puerto Rico), Relax (Holland), Louie Vega and his Elements of Life Live Band (Puerto Rico/USA) and many more. The guest artist will be Louis Mhlanga.

Ticket prices are R 399,00 for a two-day pass and R 260,00 one-day pass. Tickets for the 'Rosies' stage will be R 25,00 per performance. Organizers have been working with South African Airways to provide people from around the world with great travel packages.

Another brilliant feature of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival is the photographic exhibition. The venue for the photographic exhibition is the Duotone Gallery. Workshops on the various aspects of music are held by local and international musicians. The general public is welcome to attend these exciting workshops whilst young people from around Cape Town are transported there to join in. Gwen Ansell will be running a journalism course as a one week program. Certain headline artists will facilitate master classes on the mornings of the performance days.

A large variety of local cuisine will be on sale to festival goers. For those of you who would like to do some shopping, festival merchandise, arts and crafts as well as music will be on offer.

The 2006 Cape Town International Jazz Festival will leave you feeling enlivened and your soul revived. Join in the excitement of this fantastic festival; it will certainly be a memorable experience.
