Céline Dion Kicks-Off Her World Tour in South Africa

The 14th February 2008 is eagerly anticipated by Céline Dion fans in South Africa. Considered to be one of the world’s greatest music entertainers, Céline Dion has chosen to kick-off her 2008 world tour in South Africa, with the first concert being held at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg.

Céline Dion will be the international headline artist to perform at the annual “Unite of the Stars” concerts held throughout South Africa. This event is traditionally held in November each year, but the 2007 “Unite of the Stars” has been moved to February 2008 in order to accommodate Céline Dion world tour schedule. This will be her first visit to South Africa and she has told the press that she is excited and looking forward to being there. With over three million album sales in South Africa, she is the biggest selling female artist in the country.

The Johannesburg concert on 14th February 2008 will be followed by two concerts in Tswane (Pretoria), one in Durban, two in Cape Town and one in Port Elizabeth, after which Céline Dion will be heading for Antwerp, Belgium to continue with her world tour.

Céline Marie Claudette Dion was born into a large family on 30th March 1968 in Charlemagne, Quebec. This world famous Canadian singer and songwriter started her career in Francophone, Canada when her manager René Angélil (who later became her husband) mortgaged his home in order to finance her first record. Dion went on to win both the 1982 Yamaha World Popular Song Festival and the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, giving her exposure that she needed to launch what has become a remarkable career.

In 1990, Céline Dion released the album “Unison”. This was her first English album, having already released fourteen albums in French. During the 1990s Dion’s career skyrocketed as she achieved worldwide success and fame and by the end of the decade, she was one of the most successful artists in pop music. In 1999 she took a break from the entertainment world to focus her attention on her family. Returning to the music scene in 2002, Dion signed a four year contract to perform at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Her contract at Caesars Palace has ended and Céline Dion is embarking on her world tour, to the delight of her loyal fans world-wide. Her South African fans are thrilled that she has chosen their country as the start of this tour and are looking forward to giving her a warm welcome.
