The Breedekloof Outdoor Festival
Annually in October, South Africa’s passion for the outdoors is celebrated at the Breedekloof Outdoor Festival. This well-attended festival takes place in the beautiful Breedekloof wine region, which is one of the largest Western Cape wine producing valleys, encompassing the Goudini, Slanghoek, Breede River Valley and Rawsonville areas, less than an hours drive from Cape Town. The 2007 Bredekloof Outdoor Festival will be taking place from 12th to 14th October 2007.
This fun-filled weekend will include activities taking place at the wineries and cellars spanning the entire Breedekloof region. It goes without saying that award winning South African wines will feature at the Breedekloof Outdoor Festival, but taste buds will also be tantalized with a range of traditional (and not so traditional) South African dishes – from spitbraai to oysters.
The Breedekloof Outdoor Festival has, in the past, placed a lot of attention on sporting activities which has always proven to be a huge success. The 2007 festival will feature events such as the Deetlefs Night Run (a 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer run through the Deetlefs Estate vineyards), the challenging Breedekloof Outdoor Challenge and a Mountain Bike Fun Ride, which will be hosted by Slanghoek Winery. This “Mountain to Mountain” challenge will take place on the Saturday. It offers a 60-kilometer race for experienced riders and a 30-kilometer race as a fun race. The track that will be followed takes bikers through majestic mountains, past sparkling rivers and through picturesque vineyards, making it an enjoyable event for all participants.
The Breedekloof Outdoor Festival is not only for the sports enthusiast. There will be a number of activities for the entire family to enjoy. Activities include quad-biking, helicopter flips, archery, paintball, clay-pigeon shooting, horse riding, tagged fishing contest and wine-blending, all accompanied by a variety of live music. There will be an Outdoor Gear Expo and the Cape Wine Academy will host Food and Wine pairing sessions at Slanghoek Winery, during the festival. For the younger visitors entertainment includes pony rides, face painting and farm animal petting.
