World Beauties Arrive in South Africa

The OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, has recently been flooded with the arrival of a hundred and fifteen of the world’s most beautiful women. Representing countries from all corners of the globe, these beauties, and Miss World hopefuls, gracefully entered the country to attend the various functions and events leading up to the competition. Johannesburg, the tourism industry and its governing bodies, have been pulling out all the stops to ensure that the Miss World finalists enjoy a memorable visit to South Africa.

To kick off their arrival to the country, an elegant black tie event was hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre on the 17th of November to celebrate South Africa being chosen as the host to the pageant and to welcome all the contestants to Johannesburg. Acting Mayor of Johannesburg, Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, delivered the welcoming speech, while a message from the Executive Mayor, Amos Masondo, was played at the function, as Masondo was unable to attend. South African celebrities, businessmen, former Miss South Africas and the reigning Miss World, Zi Ling Zhang, were amongst the guests on Monday night.

While trips to various historical and naturally breathtaking sights are on the schedule for the contestants, so they can enjoy the warmth, beauty and hospitality of the country, there are a few important events they will be taking part in. Some of their duties, while awaiting the competition, include a Miss World Children’s Party, Miss World Charity Auction, Miss World Charity Dinner, visiting a Hospice on 1 December (World Aids Day), a photo shoot on the Nelson Mandela Bridge, tree planting in Soweto and a charity ball.

The live broadcast of the pageant, that will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre on 13 December 2008, will not only bring attention to the tourism aspect of South Africa, but reassure the world that the country is able to host such large international events with as much organization, glamour and style as anywhere else in the world. These wonderful beauties will be broadcast into the homes of more than two billion viewers, and it is set to be a breathtaking and unforgettable event.
