Kenton-on-Sea

The beautiful coastal village of Kenton-on-Sea could not enjoy a more picturesque setting. Situated between the Kariega and Bushman’s tidal rivers, this lovely village features sunny, unspoilt beaches and lush coastal vegetation. In fact, the village borders a nature reserve where small buck and other wild animals are often sighted. It is also very popular amongst fishermen who find that virtually every form of the sport can be enjoyed in Kenton-on-Sea.

Kenton-on-Sea enjoys a wonderfully temperate climate since it is situated on the edge of both the summer and winter rainfall areas. Thus you can expect to experience plenty of enjoyable weather during your stay here. Between the months of April and December, many travelers make their way through the town to enjoy a spot of whale watching, since these graceful giants of the sea often pass this section of the coast at this time of the year. In addition to whales, marine animal fans can also see dolphins frolicking in the waters off the coast at virtually any time of the year. If you are lucky and brave enough, you will be able to swim amongst them during your stay here.

There are plenty of stunning activities to enjoy in and around the town. Walking trails and horse trails will take you through the wonderfully cool indigenous bush, right onto the soft sand of the beaches, while hiking trails will afford you the opportunity to explore even more of the surrounding areas. Canoe trails, mountain bike trails and 4x4 routes are also available. Outdoor enthusiasts will find that the beaches are a great place to start their adventure, with sand boarding, snorkeling, water skiing and boating available to the public. You can also hire canoes and boats for a small fee at the marina.

A short drive from this picturesque little village will have you arrive at a selection of top game reserves. The Kariega Game Reserve is the closest, being only a 15 minute drive from Kenton-on-Sea, while Shamwari, Lalibela, Amakhala, Schotia and Addo Elephant Park can all be reached within one and a half hours of driving on public roads.

This area is also a melting pot of history and culture. You can visit ancient Khoisan living areas which were abandoned centuries ago, explore the rich Xhosa heritage and enjoy other cultural experiences, such as tours of the adjacent townships. The nearby Diaz Cross will give some insight into Portuguese history, while the numerous shipwrecks make for great exploration. Other attractions include Voortrekker historical sites, 1820 Settler monuments and German Settlements which can be found short distance up the coast towards East London.

So come and explore this great coastal gem. You will find that a true journey of discovery awaits you in Kenton-on-Sea!
