Port Elizabeth

Set on the beautiful beaches of Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth has an over-abundance of warm water beaches, as estuary, rivers and kloofs. There are endless opportunities for surfing, angling both surf and deep sea, yachting, power-boating, boardsailing and diving off the many shipwrecks and reefs.

On the wild side, Port Elizabeth offers malaria-free game reserves where you can view lions, elephants, black and white rhinos, buffalos, leopards, hippos, bucks and 300 species of birds to start with. The Addo Elephant Park, a short drive away, is home to the largest family group of elephants so close to a city world-wide.

The city has many live shows at the stately Opera House, symphonies at the spectacular Feather Market Hall, cabaret at nightclubs, disco-dancing, beachside pubs, cafes and a great variety of restaurants, flea-markets, museums and art-galleries.

The center city with its impressive architecture, monuments and statues, is steeped in Settler history. A good starting point of The Donkin Heritage Walking Trail is the lighthouse offices of the Donkin Reserve. The Trail winds it way through the leafy streets where some Victorian homes now house museums, antique shops and quaint stylish tea gardens.

Twice a day for the past thirty years, the antics of Lady Dimple and her famous dolphin family and seals entertain and educate the crowds at one of South Africa's best Oceanarium. Within the complex is a Snake Park and Tropical House with many species of exotic and indigenous reptiles and a museum with archeological and anthropological exhibitions. Known as 'Sport Elizabeth', the city has 5 golf tours and facilities for all other sports.
