Plenty of Attractions at Sundays River Valley

The Sundays River is an incredibly beautiful part of the Eastern Cape in South Africa. The Sundays River Valley has a variety of great attractions to cater to every activity level and taste, along with accommodation to suit your individual needs and festivals to keep you entertained. The valley stretches from the coastline just outside of Port Elizabeth and heads inland through Addo and Kirkwood. Sundays River itself is a small holiday hamlet where a number of people from Port Elizabeth and other surrounding areas come to enjoy the tranquil river environment and convenient proximity to the beach. If you’re visiting the area, head to the Sundays River Valley for great attractions.

There are not many historical attractions along the valley other than the Old Drift House which once played an important role in local industry. The main draw-card here is the beautiful natural surrounds which are perfect for a variety of activities, and the Addo Elephant National Park which is located further inland and draws its water from the river. Other wildlife attractions that you will find in the region are Shamwari Game Reserve, the Schotia Safaris private reserve and the Addo Crocodile Ranch which features crocodiles, lions and a great restaurant. Even further inland, hunters will find Tibs Hunting and Mayogi Safaris – both hunting specialists who will take you on a game hunt in this malaria free environment. This is not for the faint hearted!

Those looking for more sporting activities will find the Kirkwood Golf Club to be a most enjoyable recreational facility. The Addo Polo Club offers polo, tennis, cricket and squash and is a great place to spend an afternoon or two. However the real adventure in the Sundays River Valley lies in the many adventure activities which can be found here. River rafting, horseback riding in the bushveld, 4x4 trails, bird watching, micro light flights, ballooning and canoeing are just some of the excellent activities you can find here. And as if that wasn’t enough, you can also enjoy the Addo Rose Festival, the Citrus Carnival, the Addo Polo Tournament and the Kirkwood Wildlife Festival – all of which are held in the Sundays River Valley once a year. So book your stay at the Sundays River Valley now and make use of this great South African location!
