Description:

During the Grahamstown National Arts Festival theaters are created everywhere, fleamarkets take over parks, and streets become filled with people and traffic. Throughout the 10 days of the festival, visitors can choose from over 500 shows with jazz, plays, cabaret, stand-up comics and opera. The main categories of art are student theater, street theater, craft art, jazz and the children's arts festival. Also on offer are book fairs, demonstrations and workshops.

The unique ambiance of the festival is a great tourist attraction, familiarizing visitors to the country with the arts and cultural side of the nation. Another aspect is that the festival plays a major role in the economy of Grahamstown as it creates many jobs and gives local businesses an annual boost.
