The annual Chinese New Year Celebration is set to take place at The Brightwater Commons on Saturday 12 February 2011 with the exhibition stall opening at 11am and entertainment starting at 1pm with an official opening ceremony. This collaboration between The Brightwater Commons and the Chinese Embassy in South Africa provides fascinating insight into Chinese culture.
The program features the spectacular Lion and Dragon dances which never fails to impress. Other items on the program include traditional Umbrella and Fan dancing, demonstrations of martial arts, acrobatics, contortion, a breath-taking fire act, with the highlight being a set of acts by the multi-talented Yunnan Arts Troupe from Yunnan, a province of China known for its cultural diversity. Come along and share in the fun and excitement, as the Chinese usher in the Year of the Rabbit - associated with speed, strength and kindness of heart - and learn more about the Chinese Zodiac, enjoy Chinese cuisine, and pick up some traditional arts and crafts to remember the experience by.
