The Mr Price Pro, originally known as the Gunson 500, in the early 80’s has become an internationally acclaimed surfing competition hosted at the New Pier.
Description:
This event is one of the grandest surfing competitions on the ‘ASP World Qualifiying Series Tour’ with a prize purse totalling US$ 125 000, the equivalent of about R1.75 million rand. And to add to such prize are the very valuable WQS points, totalling 3000, which counts towards the surfer’s overall rating. This certainly makes for a thrilling event!
The Mr Price Pro begins on Durban’s North Beach. It has been established as a six star rated event for male surfers and a five star for female surfers. The New Pier venue, known for its world class surf conditions, will allow visitors to view some great action.
So if you’re competing or just viewing, we know that this will be one of the memorable occasions for 2008 in the surfing world!
The Mr Price Pro will take place from 2 July to 8 July 2008.
