The much anticipated Dusi Canoe Marathon will be welcoming paddlers from all over the country as well as internationally to come compete in its waters from the 17th of January to the 19th of January 2008.
The 2008 Hansa Powerade Dusi, named after the Msunduzi River and also frequently referred to as the Duzi River, will be starting its gruelling test at Camps Drift in Pietermaritzburg with its competitors arriving at the Blue Lagoon in Durban after a period of three days.
With so much excitement building up to the race, organizers are hoping to attract over 2 000 paddlers. Entries to the event have been pouring in with the looming deadline not far ahead. If you have still not entered you can do so on the Official website found at www.dusi.co.za.
You may also enter into the Official site where you will be able to place a bid on any of the charities you wish to support. Three of the official charities are already estimated to be receiving over R500 000 from the charity batch auction online, namely the SPCA, Starfish and DUCT or Dusi Umgeni Conservancy Trust. However, only 60 of the top bidders will make it into the famed ‘charity batch’ with the official cut off occurring a minute before January 12!
Unlike the many other paddlers the ‘charity batch’ will begin their race at exactly 06h30, while others will begin at 06h00 to approximately 11h00 in groups of 60 paddlers at a time. Whether you’re a paddler or a spectator, you are guaranteed to have an amazing experience!
