There’s nothing quite like spending your weekend cycling amongst some of the most astounding scenery. The Bruintjieshoogte Cycle Tour follows the Blue Crane Route which takes you along the national road R63, via Somerset East towards Cookhouse. Road Cyclists have a choice of four distances to choose from namely: a 20km, a 50km, a 100km or a 160km ride; while mountain bikers have a choice of two routes, either a 25km or a 54km route.
At the bottom of the dramatic Boschberg Mountains you will find one of the quaintest little towns, well known far and wide for its beautiful national monument buildings. Two of the most prestigious and most noteworthy buildings situated in this little jewel of a town are the old officers’ mess and the Old Wesleyan Chapel. It is within the old officers’ mess walls that you will find one of the largest collections of exquisite paintings done by the well famed South African born artist, Walter Battiss and of course not forgetting the Old Wesleyan Chapel which houses the lovely Somerset East Museum.
This is certainly something not to miss!
