The Berg River Canoe Marathon is a prestigious occasion on the much anticipated WCCU canoe racing. Covering over 227 kilometres, it is certainly not for the faint hearted!

Description:

Since 1961 this exhausting and extremely challenging canoe marathon has taken place during the winter time, making the natural elements a further demand and test on the body, physically and mentally. Canoeist make their way through fast flowing water, narrow channels and overhanging vegetation. The marathon covers a massive distance over four days, going from Paarl all the way to Velddrif. It is one of the longest races in South Africa.


On Tuesday the 8th of July 2008 the all important time trials take place, positioning the top sixty paddlers into their starting positions. The Berg River Canoe Marathon will start on 10 July and end on 14 July 2008.
