be on the other side of the desk
I’m an English teacher in the US but wanting to be on the other side of the desk, that is to say learning a language rather than teaching one! My friend has taken on a placement as a volunteer in Benin – after receiving so many postcards from her, and seeing how her French (their official language) has improved so rapidly, I’ve been inspired! At the moment I am teaching a group of Spanish children at my escuela de ingles en Nueva York and they have given me the idea of going to Europe – so many different countries so close to each other, I would love to take advantage of seeing a continent so diverse! However, whether is will be a sprachkurs to learn German or a språkkurser to learn Swedish, I don’t know! Please, I’d really appreciate some advice – a European country with cultural and cosmopolitan cities to explore, countryside to enjoy and a language to learn! I’m so excited and I don’t even know where I’m going yet! But I can see I am on the brink of something big – new language, new friends, new work opportunities…I cannot wait!
