Security alert delays CT flights

Quote:
Police sniffer dogs and explosive experts were rushed to Cape Town International Airport on Sunday following a security alert that caused hundreds of domestic flight passengers to be evacuated from the terminal and resulted in numerous delays to flights around the country, including Durban.

And as the delay of up to two hours affected other flights, Airports Company of SA (Acsa) officials tried hard to downplay yesterday's drama. But sources at the airport said the domestic departure terminal had been cleared of passengers, including those who had already gone through security checks.

A porter, who asked not to be named, said: "People have been moved outside the terminal's hallway and told to wait. Then there were guys with machine guns. I sort of gathered they must have been security. There was nothing really chaotic, but it was obvious people were nervous about the whole thing."
