Nobody was willing to become moderators - who'd have the ability to delete posts that upset other members.

Oh my! I didn’t realize things were in so bad a state. I appreciate you putting me straight, though. It’s the sort of situation that one normally mocks but never ever really believing that it might be the true state of affairs.

I’m afraid that I wouldn’t be such a good moderator. Well ……….. that is to say that I might be a “good” one but then I wouldn’t allow myself to get thick into a discussion without feeling I’d compromised a “moderating neutrality”.

The problem here is a common one, I think: Those brandishing the shameful adjectives (as if it were piri piri at the Wimpy bar) are the most guilty themselves. Naturally, the first thing to do as a “new moderator” would be to toss these chappies out. I’m not sure that I understand what would be the negative side to that but there must be one otherwise it would have already been done?
