But you could ask the same question of a black person living in America - they will say that they are African American - are they in exile? Same goes for a black person living in the UK are they in exile too? The fact is that there are whites in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Egypt, etc, etc. The world nowadays is such that people can pretty much choose where they want to live. And as in every country some people have more choices than others.

Firstly I want to say that I love SouthAfrica more than anything in the world,and it is true,when I tell people I am a southafrican,they ask me why I am not black,and when I tell people my dad is from Kenya,they ask me if he is black,and when I say my mother is German they ask me why I dont speak German and I could go on and on....I think itis also true that lots of whites are leaving SA because they feel threatened,I did,but still, for as long as the black population of SA has suffered or felt less worthy because of sighns everywhere saying "only whites",or "No blacks",and dying and having thier beautiful nature be destroyed by misery,it is only to be expected that they are angry and want revenge....maybe this will go on for hundreds of years,maybe it will be over tomorrow,but at last I hope that we all can live there,together without putting up sighns on land that belongs to nobody,the world belongs to nobody,we arent inheriting it from our parents,we are borrowing it from our children,I just hope they they take better care of it than we have done.

Hi everyone
New to the site & just as pissed that some white ex-south africans don't seem to know where their priorities are. A high school teacher of mine once told our class that common sense is not common. Look "klein baas", before you throw proofless abuses at our President & racist remarks (I think you are the 1st & the last racist yourself), you should have known that this is not an official South African government website. Even if it was, your common sense should tell you that Presidents don't design websites. Any smart South African would have noticed that the web designer or owners of this site are not South African either. Anyway, it's fine with me if they see South Africa as black since 87% of the country is black (including Coloureds & Indians).

Know why your American friends think you talk bull waste when you say you're African? White ex-South Africans here (or anywhere else overseas)don't want to be associated with Africa, they turn red when you call them Africans - to them African mean black, not Continent of origin. I guess I should compliment you if that's how you identify yourself, you are the First. God knows why all of a sudden we are people of colour, for goodness sake why don't you just call us BLACK! We don't mind, it's better than "kaffir" or "******". I've been to Australia as an exchange student & I'm now studying here in the US. Coincidentally, both are favourite destinations for white South Africans who can't stand being governed by a "kaffir". I can fill a page about their racist & dirty stories about SA, but I always try to see good in everything unless provoked.

And please spur me the crime story, crime is everywhere. It's just that other smart citizens don't go about badmouthing their countries when there are good stories to tell. God knows there are many about SA since MADIBA came out of PRISON!! Here in my city in the supposedly safest & most democratic country in the world, people don't leave their cars & houses unlocked & if you are a female staying by yourself, you're supposed to lock your door even in broad daylight unless you want to be raped, and, you don't use isolated ATM's unless you want to be another statistic. As long as you feed them the bad stories here, you will fit right in. Otherwise even the US is not the 'Heaven on earth' that their media portrays it to be.

Click_Lady, I could not have said it better. I think people should start focusing on the DeBeers family, who has stolen much of the wealth out of the country. Particularly as it relates to Gold and Diamonds. 51 percent of the diamonds exported from SA is controlled by this family.

This is something that should be stopped immediately! That money could be used to rebuild schools, housing and infrastructure of the country, rather than lining the pockets of the rich and powerful.

With regard to your above opinion: it is the Oppenheimer family who "owned" De Beers.
Perhaps you should take a look at the De Beers website to refresh your memory http://www.debeersgroup.com

With regard to the all the above...
I don't agree with many of the comments made in the various replys or even in the original message posted however if this web page wants to be truly representative of the NEW South Africa (aka The Rainbow Nation) all races should be represented no matter if there are ten of one or half a dozen of another.
