Diverse remarks about South Africa

Hi Guys

Thanks a lot for your response upon my post.

What I have been reading and hearing about South Africa is a mix of quite diverse remarks! I mean, there are people who give a picture that its the worst on the planet to be......and nobody should consider staying there for a long time! At the same time, encouragingly positive information about SA is also floating in the air!

So what could be a general verdict about life in SA, is really like living in Europe? Or is it just as spending your life in developing country like Pakistan or India etc?

Reply keenly awaited

Cheers,

aaqib

Well now this is a difficult one as Capetown is very different from the other places..... no two are alike. When people talk bad about South Africa they are refering to Johannesburg (where I lived for 25 years) it is crime ridden... but then you go to Cape town which does have a fair amount of crime but is still pleasant to live in so obviously people who come from Capetown will always have good words to say. I have noticed this about people who comment on crime,..... all depends where they are from.

Cape Town is a great place to stay and SA isnt like Pakistan or any other developing country at all. We are by far the best-off african country. sure, there is crime in SA, but compare apples with apples and you willfind that our crime is more or less on a par with the likes of the USA. the only difference is we have 40 million people in SA and the US has 200 million.

SA is a great place to stay, especially Cape Town, withing 30 moins of my home i have the sea, vinyards, a theme park, malls, camping places in the mountains...you name it, SA has it...we even have a ski resort in the Drakensberg...

I agree with Yster. Having recently moved to Port Elizabeth from the US is a plus like no other. When we thought of relocating our decision was made easy by all this area has to offer in the forms of culture, entertainment, recreation and tho there is some crime as in any place in the world it's actualy minimal compared to many cities in the US. i LOVE africa and hope to never leave it. Where else can get you such brillant culture to raise your children in, such ethics and live by such a grandiose ocean, the mountains, the dessert??? We've got it all here!
