Cry; my beloved Africa.
With the Holy Bible in their hands, the first white missionaries came to Africa, attracted by the continent’s vast mineral resources. Without much knowledge of their intention, the illiterate chiefs trusted them and accepted them. They ask the chiefs and the people (Africans) to close their eyes to say the Lord’s prayer. At the end of the prayer, when they opened their eyes, they found the missionaries Bible in their hands and Africa lands in the hands of the missionaries. From that time, the Europeans have looted our gold, diamond, manganese, silver, etc. to Europe. When the chiefs detected that they are being robbed and confronted them, they quickly changed their minds and provided them bottles of assorted whisky to intoxicate them. Africans were not stupid, some of them like Jomo Kenyatta, Kwame Nkrumah, Julius Nyerere, Sir Milton Magai’s mounted efforts to procure independence for their countries. Their success ended the looting of Africa’s mineral resources abroad. Now some of the countries like Ghana achieved their independence, the colonial masters neglected the African continent as they could not trick us into selling our gold again. Africa, for the past four decades has not known peace. Not a single day passes without hearing of a civil strife, ethnic conflicts, religious wars. This escalated trend of conflicts have brought untold hardships to her people, causing thousands of deaths and refugee crises. The root of Africa’s problems is both internal and external. It has been the habit of the military to seize power for their voice to be heard, knowing perfectly well that they cannot run the affairs of the state. Full text: http://www.beta4africa.com |
