This is cool. Even though I've never heard or read Africaan, I can make out enough of the words to get the jist of the conversation. Some of the words are similar to English. Plus, I still remember a tiny bit of German that I learned while living in Germany as a young child.

Hi there Sassy_One.

I hate to burst your bubble, but they weren’t speaking/writing Afrikaans at all. They were only goofing around and speaking regular English but typed it phonetically to simulate an (very!) Afrikaans accent.

Oh goodness, Sassy-one, you made me grin so hugely!

Knopkierie and I were just goofing off! Thing, is you probably would be able to understand some Afrikaans words! Take for instance this sentence (don't be afraid now, it is a different language, but if you try hard you could probably understand the words)

My pen is in my hand.

And the past tense of that,

My pen was in my hand.

Just incase you might think I'm being sarcastic or something - I'm really not! This is the only two sentence that I could come up with where the vocab and sentence structure is the same (pronounciation is VERY VERY different)
Once you get into other tenses, the similarities are outthe windo!

ex: future tense

My pen sal in my hand wees
(my pen will in my hand be)

Anyway, welcome to the board, as long as you don't sass us too much I'm sure we'll get along like a house on fire.
Where in the South are you?

Liza
