Hi, this is kinda strange asking for this, but I've just started to get to know this South African girl, and we kinda flirt abit. She can speak Afrikaan and was impressed when I said "hello" to her in the language! So now, I want to go the next level and say something more advanced. So can someone please tell me what "You are so beautiful and have the most amazing eyes and lips!". OK, I know it sounds corny, but please help! Thank you in advance! Gareth

Hey Gareth and welcome to the board.

Liza, our resident translator will be along some time today. I could translate that for you, but since I learned my Afrikaans in the ghetto, you're more likely to get slapped if I do it.

Liza is the best translator ever. If she doesn't get to it in the next 12 hours, I'll give it a shot.

Of course, you're not going to impress her with words when you have the language name wrong -- there's an "s" on the end. AfrikaanS. Don't feel bad about me teasing you about it, it's a common mistake, particularly among the British.

Good luck with the young lady, and don't forget the flowers.
Ches

Thanks ches!! Very much appreciated!

Let me apologise for saying "Afrikaan" and not "Afrikaans" - a schoolboy error! I should have done my homework first!

As for me getting a slap off her if you translated, that may not be a bad thing, depending how you look at it!!

Cheers
Gareth

Hi Bravo

As a guy myself, this is how I would translate your feelings..

"Jy is so pragtig!... met die mees verstommende oe" en lippe"

Hope this helps....What do you think Liza?

Bravo,

What I gave you before was a direct translation..

I would rephrase it slightly...If it is was me

"Jy is so lieflik, en jou pragtige oe" en sagte lippe, is so absoluut ongeloofbaar"

Only a thought

Hallo People!

Here's my two cents:

Jy is beeldskoon, en het die mees fantastiese oë en lippe.

If a bloke told me I had "verstommende" eyes and lips I'd not be to sure if it was a compliment.

Jy = you
is = (duh)
beeldskoon = literally picture-clean, specifically meaning that the person has a beautiful face
en = and
het = have
die = the
mees = most
fantastiese = fantastick
asemrowende = breathtaking (that's a good option too)
oë = eyes
lippe = lips.

Anyway, just decide what works for you, here's a word for word of moonwalkers, to help you choose:
Jy is so pragtig met die mees verstommende oë en lippe.
are so beautiful with the most (something that leaves you without the ability to speak, I'd translate it as dumbfounding, but that's not always the meaning) eyes and lips.

Jy is so lieflik en jou pragtige oë en sagte lippe is so absoluut ongeloofbaar.
You are so lovely and your beautiful eyes and soft lips are so absolutely unbelievable

Anyway dude, there you go, feel free to pop in at any time if you need some more translations, ok?

(thanks for the compliments ches, hoe bloos ek nou!)

Resident Language Translator

Liza

Must apologize for stepping on your toes..

Was really not aware that you were the resident language translater for the website, it was only after reading the entry from Ches again, that I realized it...sorry!

How many languages do you speak?
