Thumbs up

Are you a South African that has left South Africa and is considering returning home? Or are you someone looking for a better standard of living and thinking about moving to South Africa.

My husband and I are fortunate to have residency for both the UK and Australia, but because we both grew up in Africa (Kenya and South Africa) we can't help but feel that South Africa is home despite all its "problems".

Is there anyone out there that has already made the move (back) to South Africa? How has it been? Is there anyone out there like us, that are considering the move but are unsure? What are your thoughts/doubts?

It would be great to hear your views, concerns, etc.

Cheers,
Rafiki

Hi'

I note that you state that you have residency of both U.K. and Austrailia but no mention of S.A..

The reason that I state this to you, is not knowing your respective ages one can only assume that you would be expected to enter as "Self Supporting'" I can only suggest that you access the "Home Page," of "Dept of Home Affairs'" also available through this web site and consider all options open to you before making any move.

Speaking from experiance.

I am Irish, married to an S.A. citzen with two S.A. dependents and for me to enter to S.A. is a majour night mare.

I wish you all the luck in the world as it is a beautifull place to live (once given the oppertunity) but if all the t's are not crossed and the i's dotted before your move you are in for a hard struggle.

Regards

Gilbert

Hi Gilbert,

My husband is an SA citizen and I am British. If and when we decided to settle in SA, I will be applying for the relevant settlement visa, via the Dept of Home Affairs, which I think currently costs £1500 or there abouts. I'm told it can take up to 6 months to obtain.

If and when we settle in SA we'll be heading for Cape Town where we both have family, although Jo'burg is an option as some of my Husbands family are also based there.

Kind regards,
R.

Hi there ,
just as i was going through this posting I come over your messages and I would like to explain that when someone is married to a South African you pay nothing to apply for permenant residence " for applying " and you can check that on the homeaffairs site on the internet.

it is scary to take this move I did think about it for too long but if you are going to have a good chance there I mean job wise then every thing is easy after that it is a very nice country to live in.

I think that each country got it`s own problems

Regards

Hi Rafiki,

So Sorry for taking so long to reply, but if you can please contact me at gilbertivers@hotmail.com may be we can be of some assistance to each other (i.e. pooling of the relevent information) as I am in the opposite situation to yourself (i.e. I am Irish and my wife is from S.A.).

As so it happens my family are settled in Cape Town so if and when you make your decission maybe we could meet up over a braii.

Regards

Gilbert

Hi Rafiki,

I just saw your message. My husband and I moved to Joburg 3 months ago. We had to aply for a business visa from our home country (Turkey). Now we are here. Settled down and running our business. We enjoy each second. We just aplied through our lawyer for permenant residence. If you like please get in touch with me and I will try to help you. The Law will change in November. Due to that I recommend to you to have a chat with our lawyer. She is really good. Dealing everyday with Home Affairs. She is specialized in these kind of aplications etc.

You can also e-mail me didem.avsar@adventuresafrica.net

Best regards,

Didem

Wanting to return to SA

I was a Permanent Resident and married a South african. We left SA and came to the UK. My wife got British Citizenship.
We have been in the UK since 1991. What is the procedure for returning to live in SA.
