For the white Africans

How do you respond to non-Africans who say a white African is a joke? This problem is especially prevalent here in my current residency America. Whenever I inform people that I am from South Africa they look at me confused and ask stupid questions such as "Why are you white?" or "Did you live with lions or something?" It's quite funny to see their faces whenever I respond how South Africa used to have a currency greater than the American dollar. Perhaps in the future I should ask why the American rugby team is so terrible.

But the white African ignorance is really starting to annoy me. A lot of Americans like to claim that America is a white nation even though it belongs to the Native Americans whom were Indians. They should remain quiet too since white settlers in America have slaughtered so many Indians and forced them out of their land.

you say....

i’m lost
in my country
i don’t belong here
don’t know my ancestors
divorced from my ground
denied my heritage
white African
without a home
i’m also angry
self-acknowledged privileged fury
at apartheid’s culpability
put on me, my children, their children
indoctrinated european punk
simply accepting propagandist junk
black against white
when can we make it right?
righting wrongs finding the human in black
evil, heathen, communist black
who’s black? roads are black
i have your back
and i’m giving back
Afrika Mayibuye!
i feel you
see you,
cry…
my blood into you
making me part
of you

amanda the Amandzing way

Smile A Fish out of Water

Yes, what a good way to express yourself in your poem. I feel the same and am not white, not black and yet not a blend of these. Remember the Immorality Act, that would have been our punishment. No, we kept to ourselves and was reviled by black and white, but we knew our own worth, now we feel still dignified and good about ourselves. Apartheid did not destroy our spirit. It was a shame to itself and tore apart many people who might have chosen otherwise.
I feel the roots of my beginnings and now, after 29 years in the US, I shall be returning to my own beginnings. My family all live in SA. I know where I should be. The uprooting is always very traumatic.
The Americans also ask me if I lived around the wild animals and some ask if we have automobiles there. Many are surprised to hear that I can speak English!

Great Poem

Guys that was the most beautiful poem...
I am white but not South African, but i really feel you...
It's hard to feel like an outcast in your own country...
I like your country... I hope I will be able to visit it one day...And all that because of that one special person....
