I used to live in Johannesburg between 1978 and 1984. Does anyone remember Mandys?

Hi.

I used to live in RSA from 1973-1987 and yes I can remember the Mandys bar. However ,cant remember the ppl working behind the bar. I also used to hand around the Cesars Palace and especially the Thunderdome in Joburg. Remeber those? There was also Boobs disco and Bella Napoli! Ahhh, good memories there.

Thanks Sabine for the reply. I never knew the other bars that you mentioned. So where do you live now, which country. The memories as you say are fantastic of Mandys. Outragoeuos nights. I was either in the Queens bar serving which was on the right as you entered or in the main bar behind the DJ box. I was the large one. I remember one fun night when the police came over the roof garden to raid the place. What a screem.

I used to love the Queens! I now live in Switzerland and enjoy a calm and safe life. I was watching a TV program about RSA last night. "Jirr" it was scary. I'm now glad I no longer live in that warped country but still miss all the good times I had there. So, which side of the world are you on?

Hello Sabine

I now live back home in Scotland in the town where I was born. I do miss the times I had in Joburg especially all the people I knew. As always the passage of time and you loose track of them all. I still think of them though and wish I could get in contact with them again. I was a friend of the DJ at Manys Patrick he was a hairdresser in Hillbrow which was where I lived. I lived in Highpoint for years. 24 hour area always people going about. I actually felt very safe there but have been told that it is very dangerous now. Seems hard to believe that such a nice vibrant place could change so much. Anyway hope you are well and it was very nice of you to reply again.
