Wow, great photos! Such a contrast to some of the stuff you see on Carte Blanche. How are Yeoville and Hillbrow doing these days? Have they resolved the squatting problems in the buildings?

Thank you for the comments. There is a lot of action in the cbd. Hillbrow resembles a building site, with lot of refurbs. But the fall from grace was hard - and allthough bad buildings are dissapearing, a lot remain. And as crackdowns on Hillbrow, Berea and Yeoville intensify - hi-jackers move to doornfontein, malvern etc.

Even in the very posh marshalltown there are problematic buildings. By-law enforcement is better, but problems still remain. Bree Street is a mess with the taxis, and Noord Street taxi rank around JAG and Joubert Park looks better, safer and cleaner, but it is still a disgrace.

All in all the city is safe... I walked everywhere (I do this on a weekly basis).

Oh wow you are a breath of fresh air! And so nice to hear something positive out of JHB. I noticed a huge improvement in safety in Cape Town when I was there in 2005 compared to my previous visit in 2001; so nice to hear that Joburg is on the upswing now too.
