Question Instead of empowering people, Christianity in fact weakens people's ability to think

"Faith as defined by the Bible requires the suspension of basic human thought-processes which are necessary for the functioning of a healthy mind.

For example, in order to be a candidate for becoming a Christian each person must accept that they are sinners. Why? The historical facts as recorded in the Bible state that some 6,000 years ago a person named Eve, who, after being made from Adam's rib while he slept, was spurred on by a talking snake to seduce Adam into the sin of eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. All objective, rational, critical thought must be suspended to believe this story. But, once this story is accepted (swallowed), the process of naive, exploitable, childlike faith and cognitive dissonance become the standard operating procedure."

Thanks Jaybang for all your postings and research.

Whatever ones beliefs, I hope the message gets through that to fundamentally quote from the bible for answers to all our moral and social issues is quite frankly absurd.

Humanity needs to move forward.

UmfanaMadala,

Thanks for your support. I used to feel that I had all these opinions and my own beliefs but that it was taboo to speak my mind.. its like people just don't stand up for themselves against the religious fever that sweeps the world. But eventually I thought stuff that.. these are my beliefs and they are real, and maybe if more people had the balls to open up and get "Free thinking" going, we wouldn't be in a much of a mess as we are... okay maybe we would, but still if I have to listen to people quote stuff to me like its a fact that I have to believe in, then why not voice my opinion back.. after all I am not in fear of God, so I will not bite my tongue.

Raise a glass to free thinking , and freedom of choice. Cheers!!

Wounded,

You seem to have taken certain things out of the bible and disregard others. You are not your common devout Christian who quotes every scripture as fact. Some of your opinions are swayed by philosophy, and some scripture you interpret in your own way.

Now hear me on this point. if you can take out what you feel is right, and disregard what you feel is wrong, then why cant I?

Its just that I have been even more critical.. to the point where i just don't believe in the whole package deal.

Yes, I will agree with you, that there are allot of good principles and moral foundations to be learnt, but, I don't need a bible or a religion to come to the same conclusions.

I believe in being human, and living life as such. I do not believe in anything else.

The stories entailed in religion, are often no less far fetched then Greek mythology, or other ancient civilisations beliefs. Yes they may be totally different, but no more far fetched, and require the same leap of blind faith as all religions do.

I know that you feel that your life would be meaningless with out God and your religion. But my life isn't. In fact I have gained more meaning to my life... then I have ever had.

What works for you, doesn't work for everyone. When are you going to figure that out, that at the end of the day we all no matter what believe in, require blind faith. Its just that I limit mine to my life here on earth, and the experiences that are mine to explore.

Here goes...

God does not way heavy on my mind, but I do think about the life we as humans live here on earth.

Religion has screwed mankind over for ever.. and i feel its my place to voice my opinion, why the hell not?

Everything we do, no matter weather it is mathematics, geography or religion, or science, it is all at its most infinite point, based on 'blind faith'.

What we take as law, as fact as proven, exists for us in our planet / universes, but should something happen beyond our universe , galaxy , solar system.. add infinite.. everything from the laws of gravity onwards can be effected in a way never before conceived. No, we live in an environment, where the basis of our natural laws, are based on life as we know it, but extend it further, our principles and logic can extend only so far... but we believe with blind faith that life will continue to on in our delicate system of life.. unchanging.. and with that blind faith, we are able to develop facts such as gravity.

Your belief in God, and mine in no God, both require the same leap of blind faith. Neither can be proven to a fact.

There are millions infinite number of factors that could alter every fact and law of nature we know... we just cant comprehend them, yet we put our trust in them that they will not fail us. You can call it god if you want, if that gives you comfort, but the truth is something could happen at any time to alter life, nature, and your beliefs as you know it... something could happen that you cant comprehend that could smash our world to pieces.

No matter how badly you want to prove Gods existence, weather for your own benefit or others.. you just cant.. there is no way.. its all blind faith.

Swallow that pill. Make your choice, and be happy with it.. honestly.. its okay to believe what you want to.. but don't fool yourself that you can prove it.

Why do i do these posts, because they interest me.. I like voicing my opinion and seeing myself think. I like pushing others to think... but there is never much challenge here, just the odd quote from the bible.. which is to be expected.

Its all Blind faith, at least I accept that I'm happy with my choices.
