Afrikaans as a language is alive and well, spoken by South Africans and Namibians of many races and creeds. While bilingualism is preferable, Afrikaans is a rich language and there are plenty of benefits to being fluent in it, as with any language. Fluency in one language does not compromise fluency in another; it's ridiculous to suggest only becoming fluent in English.

Wouldn't it have been nice if you were taught how to type properly as well as speak english?

My god. Are you South-African?

Verstaan jy my, of is jy 'n eentalige persoon?

So, why do you seem to think learning Afrikaans is an exercise in futility?

Ek wil nie he my kinders moet van hulle erfdeel beroof word nie.
