Thanks everyone for the comments on this thread...
I think time will take care of the racial situation in South Africa in a positive way -- always assuming the country doesn't become a tyranny and turn to genocide as a "Final Solution" to the race problem has been the case in Zim.
My age is 55 years and I grew up in a Southern state in the USA, and I can remember as a child the strict segregation of the races that existed then. In fact, it would be not incorrect to say that whites and blacks lived in different worlds then with little interaction. Then came the Civil Rights revolution of the 1960s which ended government and private segregation. So today in America official racism has ended by decree -- and individual racists -- such as the black Nubianman and the white David Duke -- are considered far outside the mainstream by both the conservative right and liberal left. I say regardless of the propaganda put forth by the racists on both sides of the color line, the last 50 years or so since the end of the Second World War has seen a revolution in the relationship between the races all over the world for the better. Of course, much progress still needs to be made -- consider the situation in Zim -- but 50 years from now the topic of "racism" will be a boring issue only discussed by pointy head intellectuals at elite colleges....

I found this particular question too outrageous, not worthy of the extensive responses it has gathered. In the first place, the question is vague, yet as one tries to understand, it proves nothing but as coming from a prejudiced mind. The adage in my Ghanaian most popular language says "Atwamene suro ayaya nna" literally meaning, every executioner lives in fear and refrains from lying on his back.
If black south Africans wanted to settle scores with the settler whites they could have done so immediately after Mr N. Mandela was sworn into office as the first black President in 1994. He could have single handedly driven all non blacks into the atlantic sea and the world could not have uttered a word. The Netherlands government had anticipated a scenario of this nature and made adequate preparations towards it by putting up mighty storey buildings in Amsterdam in a suburb called Balmer Meer where they hoped to house their wicked brothers. They were shocked when their fears did not materialize. The African, unlike the European, is God-fearing and wants to remain God's obedient child. Let the so-called whites scramble for superiority, power and riches, we shall all meet somewhere someday. |

I guess this is the same thing Nubianman means when he says "the guilty are afraid". |

Re: Do blacks in SA target whites?
Quote:
Truth is, if you're an American and you go out searching for political info on southern Africa you're probably predisposed to a certain position. I know I was when I first started to read about it. I thought that, as implied by the title of this thread, blacks truly do target whites in South Africa. While SOME criminal blacks DO target white farmers and other urban whites, it's not a fair statement. What I've learned is that, in South Africa, every innocent person minding his own business is a target. Black criminals do not just prey on whites; they prey on anyone who looks vulnerable, no matter the color of their skin. While I have much sympathy for the Boer farmer who is being systematically eliminated from South Africa via murder and alienation, we cannot forget to pay heed to law abiding black victims of crime.

Absolutely Greg! Criminals will targer ANYBODY with something to steal.
May I commend you on having seen through all the rubbish people post to actually find that lesson. It's so nice to meet an American who is actually interested in another culture. Good on you!
