Habana is on the team because he's good. Not because he's not white.
In an ideal world, we would have a team like the NZ team, where there are lots of non-white players playing the game and excelling at it. Right now, however, in South Africa, rugby struggles against an all-white image. Soccer is an easy game to accommodate in the townships because all you need is an open patch of dirt and a round ball, but rugby is fantastically unpleasant to play anywhere but on grass. The majority of South Africans don't even know the rules of the game!

I would guess that the somewhat drastic AA move is a reaction to a number of non-white players doing very well in the Super 14 and Currie Cup but not getting a start on the Springbok team. Chester Williams started out as an AA member of the team and when he tackled Jonah Lomu in the '95 World Cup final you can bet not a soul would've said he was there for any reason than his ability. But without AA, would he have been given the opportunity? In the days when we needed 2 AA players in the team, there were not many non-white players in the Currie Cup. The proportion of non-white players at the top level has grown, but the number on the Springbok team has not.

I personally don't have a problem with AA in sport as long as it's about giving opportunity to players who, for whatever reason, are not the best of the best. Give them a go, and if they don't make it, then give someone else a go. I think it's wrong to have someone on the team just because he's black being a weak link and getting outplayed week after week. It's demoralizing to him, to his team mates, to supporters and to the opposition.

Put the Bok out to greener pastures

AA is for the work place where with insufficient skills the company will still survive, at least a little longer. Or am I wrong?

You simply can not have AA in sports and especially in a sport like rugby that has the power today to unite us all. Who gives a damn if the players are black or white. As long as they are excellent and have the power to make us all proud to be South African.

So why does the government not see the obvious. Their actions shoot us all in the foot. You can bet on it that if and it will happen, with our star players leaving, the likes of J. Smit, Percy, A. Willemse and V. Matfiled, this country will not be winning anything big in the coming years.

Why. What’s the motivation behind the scenes. I guess it is because rugby was part of the apartheid era. And now its time for the ANC to rub the boer noses into the dirt. Hit em where it hurts most.

The ANC does not care about the game or what it does for this land. They are still hell bent on the past and how the screws can slowly be tightened extracting the most pain as possible.

Even before the end of apartheid, soccer has been dominated by black players and they simply can not play. We have slipped even lower on the world rankings in the sport. They are a joke and an embarrassment to us all.

And now ladies and gents its time to do the same to rugby.

This government does not mind one bit if we loose in all sports, as long as the white guy looses all pride in what this nation has to offer.

Its best the Springbok gets put out to greener pastures and we adopt a new sports emblem (how about a carrot). That way in years to come the name Springbok will be remembered as the symbol of excellence in sport. And yes some would say it is a white mans symbol of sport excellence and one could view it like that. I would prefer to view it in the light that from our past we of all color bring the best we have to offer to make us all proud of who we are.

Actually we should have a dildo as our next sports emblem!!

That made me laugh. While South Africa is awesome in the sport of rugby...the same does not apply to soccer.

We were at one time African Cup of Nations champions. Lucas Radebe was also for many years one of the leading players in the UK League and was captain of Leeds United. The SA Soccer team is also multi-racial; a family friend played for Bafana Bafana and despite European offers, chose to stay in South Africa during the peak of his career. Hi folks,

Sports is a less serious affair, since olympiad days of athens and rome. The romans had the sadistic sports activity to vent their savage feelings,by watching a "LION KILL A MAN".

These days sports are truly competitive and enchanting.

In india we won the world cup20/20 ,just because there is less politics off late. Our team was not able to perform in international events some times due to political lobbying to bring in poor players who could not perform ,but mere dolls of political power ultimately the TEAM ENDING UP IN DEFEAT.

SO,""NO POLITICS IN SPORTS".

adidas,(all day i dream about sports)
