Bethlehem - Unique Tourist Attractions

Nestled in the heart of the Maluti Mountains, in the Free State Province of South Africa, lies the picturesque town of Bethlehem. It has always been known for its fertile lands where wheat grows in abundance, and due to its successful economic structure, the town has developed into a bustling administration center and popular destination for tourists, due to its unique attractions.

One of the most famous sights in Bethlehem is the mound of stones that is found just outside the town. Mineworkers would drop stones on this spot to ask and thank their ancestors for protection, to and from work. Bethlehem is also located near the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, Sterkfontein Dam Reserve and Pretoriuskloof Nature Reserve for nature lovers to explore, but the town has many attractions within town limits that are worth a look.

The Baartman House is a magnificent historical museum with fascinating exhibits, as is the Museum of Cultural History. To discover the cultural side of the town, the Basotho Cultural Village is recommended and for a little relaxation, why not hit a very golf balls at the Bethlehem Golf Course. And when it comes to festivals and fun, Bethlehem is host to an annual Bethlehem Air Show and the Maize Fair which is held in October. Bethlehem is most definitely one of South Africa’s hidden gems.
