Tswalu Game Reserve - A Unique Natural Experience

Tswalu Game Reserve, also known as Tswalu Kalahari Reserve, is beautifully located in South Africa's Northern Cape Province. Encompassing the Koranneberg Mountains and covering 100 000 hectares beside the Kalahari desert, Tswalu is a home to a range of diverse and interesting wildlife.

Interestingly, Tswalu Kalahari Reserve is said to be the largest private game reserve in the country. It was purchased by the famous Oppenheimer family in 1998 as part of their other conservation projects both in Gauteng province and even in the United Kingdom. The name Tswalu means “new beginning” in the Tswana language. Tswalu Game Reserve is a sanctuary of solitude, wide open spaces and stunning wildlife, providing refreshment to soul and mind.

In the bounds of this expansive territory are some 70 mammal species such as lions, black rhinoceroses, cheetahs, roan and sable antelope. Bird watching enthusiasts who visit Tswalu will have a great time spotting some of the 200 bird species. Not only is Tswalu Kalahari Reserve a natural wonder, but it also has a rich history as home to the San (bushmen) people. Archaeological sites throughout the marvelous game reserve will give you insight into the mystical storytelling of this fascinating people. Tswalu offers tourists a complete game viewing experience. Game drives in special safari vehicles along with knowledgeable game rangers gives you an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the African wilderness.
