Gauteng
Gauteng although the smallest of the new Provinces is South Africa is far from the least important.
It is the central access route by air for all international tourism. Airlines from America, the Far East, Europe, Australia, the Gulf States and Northern Africa all gain entry to South Africa via Johannesburg International Airport. Most domestic flights also originate and depart from here.
The province also hosts the major cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria, which are important gold mining, cultural and political centers, as well as the important industrial regions such as Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark. Gauteng also boasts the largest commercial centers in the country and it is from this region that most tours and Safaris to the rest of the country originate.
A visitor planning tours within Gauteng can direct his travels in any direction. Centrally the Johannesburg area offers mining and cultural museums, restaurants, theatres and many attractions.
Northwards, trips may be planned to the historic city of Pretoria with its beautiful tree-lined streets and wealth of culture, to Cullinan with its diamond mining heritage.
Westward to Roodepoort, Krugersdorp and Magaliesburg are interesting holiday resorts, museums, Nature Reserves, the world famous Sterkfontein Caves and other places of interest.
Southwards the route takes one to the Vaal River and Vaal Dam and all the interesting and exciting holiday venues and pleasant resorts on this famous waterway.
All this combines to make Gauteng an interesting province for the tourist.
