Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve - An Ecological Adventure
When visiting the picturesque town of Heidelberg, there is one attraction that should not be missed out on: the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. A mere one hour drive from the busting city of Johannesburg, the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, is a haven of tranquility and breathtaking wildlife. With various options available to explore the reserve and comfortable accommodation, visitors are invited to stay a few nights and enjoy this beautiful Gauteng getaway.
The Suikerbosrand Mountain Range forms the backdrop for the reserve, which offers hiking trails and game drives to view the magnificent fauna and flora. Hiking trails include the Cheetah Interpretive Trail, the Bokmakiere Day Trail, the Paraplegic Trail and the Tourist Route, on which visitors will have the opportunity to view animals such as the Brown Hyena, Eland, Black Wildebeest, Zebra and Red Hartebeest. Rare flora is found throughout the reserve and includes Highveld Protea, White Stinkwood and Ouhout. Mountain biking and bird watching are also popular activities in the reserve and visitors will find the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve to be as educational as it is inspirational.
