George Golf Club - Picturesque and Beautiful

Located along the renowned Garden Route, a few kilometers west of the town of George, the George Golf Club boasts a beautifully manicured 72 par, 18-hole golf course which is enjoyed by locals and holidaymakers alike. With the majestic Outeniqua Mountains as a backdrop and surrounded by trees, the George Golf Course offers golfers an enjoyable game in spectacular surroundings.

The George Golf Club was founded way back in 1886 and has been improved and extended over the years and, as it stands now, the George Golf Club is a world-class facility. The course is rather hilly with the fairways fringed by dense swathes of trees, most of which is endemic coastal rainforest.

The course starts off with trees on the right, a dam on the left and a well-placed bunker, making the opening hole deceptively difficult and setting the tone for the game ahead. Most golfers would agree that the eighteenth hole is the most challenging, with the shot heading in the direction of the clubhouse and the green lying in a ditch, surrounded by bunkers and only visible at a short distance – a fitting conclusion to an enjoyable game.

Facilities at George Golf Club include change-rooms with showers and a halfway house offering light meals and refreshments, along with a spectacular view of the course from the verandah. Wednesday and Saturday afternoons are reserved for members only and booking is essential.
