Amanzimtoti - Beachside Suburb

Amanzimtoti earned its name, according to tradition, because it was here that King Shaka slaked his thirst, in the river that took the same name. Toti (toe-tee), as the resort is known to locals, is the largest town along the upper South Coast, yet feels more like a beachside suburb than a city in its own right. Outside weekends and school holidays - when its high-rise holiday developments are full to bursting point - it's worth coming here for a day's swimming and lounging on Nyoni Rocks Beach.

Amanzimtoti has beautiful beaches, rock pools, walkways, salt water pools, canoeing on the river and all facilities including excellent restaurants. Also at Amanzimtoti is the Ilanda Wilds Reserve, well known for its prolific bird life. This resort offers tennis, bowls, other sporting facilities and two 18-hole golf courses.
