Dundee

In the heart of Natal's coalfields is the town of Dundee, historically interesting because of the proximity to the Battle of Blood River where in 1838 a force of 464 Voortrekkers defeated a Zulu regiment of 12000.

Dundee is also close to the well known battle sites of Rorke's Drift and Isandhlwana, where there are monuments and a small museum to commemorate this historic battle.

Near one of the coal mining centers at Dannhauser an entrepreneur has started a small Farmers Brewery in which three different kinds of beer are brewed. This brewery is open to public visits and accommodation, restaurants and bar facilities are available to visitors.
