Dullstroom - Warm Hospitality

With stunning scenery, a host of great activities and locals known for their warm hospitality, the quaint little town of Dullstroom in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa is the perfect vacation destination. Located on the Steenkampsberg Plateau at an altitude of 2076 above sea level, Dullstroom’s climate and rainfall conditions support a wide variety of flora, with many species of wild flowers adorning the countryside, while the grasslands and wetlands support an interesting variety of animals and birdlife.

As with many towns in this region of South Africa, Dullstroom’s history is linked to the Boer War, during which time the town was burned to the ground and the women and children landed up in a British concentration camp. A memorial monument and garden of remembrance ensures that those who lost their lives during this tumultuous time will not be forgotten.

In addition to being one of South Africa’s best destinations for fly-fishing, activities to enjoy when visiting Dullstroom include horse riding, hiking, walking, clay pigeon shooting, archery and 4x4 trails. Visit the Birds of Prey Rehab Center in Dullstroom, as well as the Dullstroom Nature Reserve, the Verloren Vallei Nature Reserve, which is a breeding ground for all three of the world’s endangered cranes, and the Steenkampsberg Nature Reserve. Dullstroom is the venue for the annual Tonteldoos Country Festival in April and the Dullstroom Arts Festival in December, giving people the opportunity to discover the pleasure of spending time in this charming Mpumalanga Province town.
