- the national - by the Frown remixed track by Petite noir. [04:09]
This concept video is the visual manifestation of part 1 of the quote below, 2011 to 2012. made in collaboration with Via Studios. Special thanks To MJ Turpin & Rob Hannah (part two to follow) "2011 has undoubtedly been the year of the revolution. In South Africa, the establishment of the Police Protection Unit in response to increased outbreaks of violent protest, speaks of a growing need to manage civil unrest. On a global scale, waves of disillusionment have swept through youth culture; giving rise to what WGSN calls the 'radical revolutionaries' -- politically and environmentally conscious youth who have grown up immersed in Internet culture and who use technology to create social change. This form of digital activism or 'clicktivism' is on the rise, as youth across the globe are harnessing the power of social media to organize campaigns and protests. Disgruntled by corporate greed, radical revolutionaries are calling for transparency, honesty and accountability from brands (and governments). Important considerations for these young people are the future of the environment, the effects of mass-consumerism, access to education and escalating debt amongst their peers. Brands that address these issues earnestly and show genuine support for the plight of the youth will enjoy the approval of the radical revolutionaries, who will show their support through promotion in their personal networks. While revolution culture will no doubt continue to evolve in the first half of ...

Cape Peninsula [06:20]
The scenic Cape Peninsula, part of Cape Town's Table Mountain National Park. It begins southwest of Table Mountain und stretches all the way to the Cape of Good Hope, over a distance of 40 kilometres. The mountains are covered with dense Fynbos vegetation. Many bays and coves with beautiful beaches, in the west along the Atlantic and in the East at the Indian Ocean. The journey starts in the pittoresc fishing village of Hout Bay with the busy harbour and lively promenade. Substantial amounts of fish are unloaded here every day. Mostly it is snoek or hake, mainly for export to Spain. Behind the fishing boats: the arts and crafts market with items from all over Africa, including diamonds. Boat rides on the bay are quite popular. As a farewell - and a welcome on return - the colourfully dressed street musicians from the Hangklip quarter play and sing their tunes. Proceeding to the Cape - on the Chapman's Peak Drive - along the Atlantic coast. To the left of the road - wonderful hiking trails into the Table Mountain National Park. The proteas are part of the unique fynbos vegetation. At Chapman's Point the view of Hout Bay is overwhelming. Here starts the most dramatic part of the stretch. Steep rockwalls, narrow curves and gallery tunnels, and to the right the endless blue Atlantic ocean. Behind the last bend a wide view opens. In front lies the wild sandy beach of Noordhoek. One of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa. Close to the Cape: ostriches at the sea. The Cape ...

Tanzania Maasai - Moran, Eunoto - The coming of age ceremony of the Maasai warrior [05:03]
Arriving from the lower Nile valley north of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya and central Tanzania between the 17th and late 18th centuries; the Maasai -- often misspelled Masai -- territory achieved its largest size during the mid-19th century, covering virtually all of the Great Rift Valley and neighboring Mt Marsabit in the north and as far south as Dodoma. Although today you will find; Maasai moved as far south as the town of Iringa and sometimes beyond. The Maasai, a Nilotic ethnic group of semi-nomadic origins, are among some of the best known tribes in Africa. The tribe consists of twelve geographic sectors, each with its own leadership, dialects, customs and appearance, a characteristic still being followed today. Their distinctive dress, with red as a favorite color; Maasai are often known as bright and colorful ornamented warriors. The main article of clothing being a wrap; women's wraps are called kanga, where men's wraps are called kikoi. Another characteristic of these people are the fact that they reside near the many game parks in East Africa. During the German invasion, the people of the Maasai stood against slavery, and outsiders looking for people to enslave kept away from these people who managed to live alongside most wild animals. A myth about the Maasai: each young man is thought to kill a lion before "Emorata", and in doing this, obtains great importance while becoming an icon in the community. Lion hunting has been banned in East Africa, although it ...
