- the national - by the Frown remixed track by Petite noir. [04:09]
This concept video is the visual manifestation of part 1 of the quote below, 2011 to 2012. made in collaboration with Via Studios. Special thanks To MJ Turpin & Rob Hannah (part two to follow) "2011 has undoubtedly been the year of the revolution. In South Africa, the establishment of the Police Protection Unit in response to increased outbreaks of violent protest, speaks of a growing need to manage civil unrest. On a global scale, waves of disillusionment have swept through youth culture; giving rise to what WGSN calls the 'radical revolutionaries' -- politically and environmentally conscious youth who have grown up immersed in Internet culture and who use technology to create social change. This form of digital activism or 'clicktivism' is on the rise, as youth across the globe are harnessing the power of social media to organize campaigns and protests. Disgruntled by corporate greed, radical revolutionaries are calling for transparency, honesty and accountability from brands (and governments). Important considerations for these young people are the future of the environment, the effects of mass-consumerism, access to education and escalating debt amongst their peers. KENAZ | A Sight-and-Sound Journey [05:49]
I've found that there are very few limits for those who keep an active sense of humor and cultivate a brave heart and an open mind. The trouble, so to speak, comes when we forget our basic 'beingness', and imagine ourselves to be in any way superior to our environment, without respecting our intricate connection with it. The restless adventurer in me has been reveling in all the different places I've been visiting over the past few years as a traveling musician. Every place has its unique soul, and that is open to each person's interpretation, just as it is created by us all. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. This, I believe, holds true for joy too. I've been traveling through South Africa, usually with my guitar on the backseat, off to play whatever gigs I could find. Some gigs find me, and whisk me off to strange and wonderful corners of the country to share my art there. And its through meeting people and experiencing the places along my journey, that I've found my deepest inspiration for writing. I'm taking the scope of my inspiration and artistic expression to the realms of multi-media. With handheld/mountable HD cameras I'm capturing moments in my journeys and adventures, and filming live shows and other meetings and events and weaving the lot together with the music that's been inspired by journeys like the ones in the film in the first place. The result? A sight-and-sound journey that will hopefully have you dreaming of adventure and smiling ...
