CAPE POINT_ in 3D. [01:56]
Cape Point is a promontory at the southeast corner of the Cape Peninsula, which is a mountainous and scenic landform that runs north-south for about thirty kilometres at the extreme southwestern tip of the African continent in the Republic of South Africa. Table Mountain and the city of Cape Town are close to the northern extremity of the same peninsula. It's a little north of the Cape of Good Hope on the southwest corner Although these two rocky and beautiful capes are very well known, neither cape is actually the southernmost point in Africa; that is Cape Agulhas, approximately 150 kilometres (90 mi) to the east-southeast. The peak above Cape Point is higher than that above the Cape of Good Hope. The rugged sandstone (Table Mountain sandstone) ridge that rises from Cape Point at sea level develops into two peaks. There is a major peak that dominates the skyline locally but there is also a smaller peak about 100 m further south. The higher peak has the old lighthouse on the top. The Flying Dutchman Funicular runs from a car park to the north up to slightly below the level of the old lighthouse and a short flight of steps leads to a viewing platform at the base of the lighthouse. From the end of the railway a second path leads to the lower peak.

Cape of Good Hope, South Africa._ in 3D. [01:48]
The legendary Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope form part of the Nature Reserve. These promontories were key beacons for the early explorers and are the source of many myths and legends. In 1488, Bartholomew Dias named the Peninsula Cabo Tormentoso, or the Cape of Storms. King John II of Portugal later gave it the name Cabo da Boa Esperanca - the Cape of Good Hope. In 1580, Sir Frances Drake proclaimed it to be " ... the most stately thing and the fairest Cape we saw in the whole circumference of the earth."

Cape Peninsula [06:20]
The scenic Cape Peninsula, part of Cape Town's Table Mountain National Park. It begins southwest of Table Mountain und stretches all the way to the Cape of Good Hope, over a distance of 40 kilometres. The mountains are covered with dense Fynbos vegetation. Many bays and coves with beautiful beaches, in the west along the Atlantic and in the East at the Indian Ocean. The journey starts in the pittoresc fishing village of Hout Bay with the busy harbour and lively promenade. Substantial amounts of fish are unloaded here every day. Mostly it is snoek or hake, mainly for export to Spain. Behind the fishing boats: the arts and crafts market with items from all over Africa, including diamonds. Boat rides on the bay are quite popular. As a farewell - and a welcome on return - the colourfully dressed street musicians from the Hangklip quarter play and sing their tunes. Proceeding to the Cape - on the Chapman's Peak Drive - along the Atlantic coast. To the left of the road - wonderful hiking trails into the Table Mountain National Park. The proteas are part of the unique fynbos vegetation. At Chapman's Point the view of Hout Bay is overwhelming. Here starts the most dramatic part of the stretch. Steep rockwalls, narrow curves and gallery tunnels, and to the right the endless blue Atlantic ocean. Behind the last bend a wide view opens. In front lies the wild sandy beach of Noordhoek. One of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa. Close to the Cape: ostriches at the sea. The Cape ...
